The Glorious City of New Jerusalem 🏰
In the book of Revelation, chapter 21, we are given a glimpse of the future, a vision of a new heaven and a new earth. This chapter describes the ultimate home and destiny for those who know Christ, a beautiful city known as New Jerusalem. Imagine a place where there is no more sorrow, no more pain, and no more suffering. A place where the presence of evil is diminished, and peace and joy prevail.
Introduction
Before we dive into the details of New Jerusalem, let's take a moment to recap the events leading up to this point. We have just come through the discussion about the thousand-year reign of Christ, also known as the millennial kingdom. This period occurs after the tribulation, in which Jesus returns, ends the battle of Armageddon, and separates the righteous from the unrighteous.
The Millennium Reign of Christ
During the millennial kingdom, only the righteous, those who have survived the tribulation, will enter and dwell in this glorious kingdom. The saints, who have returned with Christ, will play a vital role in governing and administering over the nations. It will be a time of unprecedented peace and joy, where people will live longer and even the animal kingdom will be tame.
The Separation of the Sheep and Goats
At the beginning of the millennial kingdom, Jesus will separate the righteous from the unrighteous. Only those who have chosen to accept and follow Christ will enter into this glorious time on earth. The unrighteous will be condemned to eternal punishment.
The Role of the Saints in the Millennial Kingdom
The saints, those who have believed in and accepted Christ, will rule and reign with Him during the thousand-year period. They will assist Jesus in governing and administering over the nations. This is a great honor and responsibility given to the believers.
The Peaceful and Joyful Nature of the Millennial Kingdom
The millennial kingdom will be a time of unparalleled peace and joy. There will be no divided governments or nations. Jesus, the Prince of Peace, will rule from Jerusalem, and there will be one world reign under His authority. It will be a time where people can live their lives as usual, with jobs, families, and the joy of living in a world without war or conflict.
The Binding of Satan and the Diminishment of Evil
During the millennial kingdom, Satan will be bound and cast into the abyss. This will contribute to the peaceful nature of the earth, as evil and wickedness will be greatly diminished. Although people will still have a sin nature and may commit sinful acts, the overall influence of evil will be significantly reduced.
The Release of Satan and the Final Battle
At the end of the thousand-year reign, Satan will be released from his bondage for a brief period to deceive the nations. This is to offer people who have grown up during the millennial kingdom a final choice to follow Christ or follow the ways of the enemy. Unfortunately, many will be led astray, and they will gather forces to battle against the Lord in Jerusalem. However, Jesus will put an end to this final battle, marking the end of all wars and conflicts.
The Lake of Fire and the Great White Throne Judgment
Following the defeat of Satan and his followers, they will be cast into the lake of fire, along with the false prophet and the antichrist. This lake of fire represents eternal punishment. The Great White Throne Judgment will also take place, where all unbelievers will be judged and sentenced to the lake of fire. This judgment will bring an end to all unbelief and rebellion against God.
The New Heaven and New Earth
After the judgment, the current heaven and earth will pass away, making way for a new heaven and a new earth. This new creation is described as a beautiful and glorious city, New Jerusalem. It will be the ultimate home and destiny for all believers. In this new heaven and earth, there will be no more sorrow, death, crying, or pain. God Himself will dwell with His people, and they will be His sons and daughters.
The Glorious City of New Jerusalem
New Jerusalem is described as a brilliant and multi-colored city. Its light is like a precious stone, clear as crystal. The city is adorned like a bride, prepared for her husband. It is a city of immense beauty and glory, illuminated by the presence of God and the Lamb, Jesus Christ.
The city is surrounded by a great and high wall, with 12 gates made of pearl. Each gate is named after one of the 12 tribes of Israel. The wall has 12 foundations, with the names of the 12 apostles of the Lamb inscribed on them. The dimensions of the city and the wall are given, emphasizing the grandeur and magnitude of New Jerusalem.
In this glorious city, believers will dwell for eternity, basking in the presence of God, experiencing unimaginable joy, and enjoying perfect communion with fellow believers. It will be a place of complete peace, love, and fulfillment.
